Sisterhood membership is open to all women. We have members who are young and ‘young at heart’. We share a desire to give back to our community. Support Temple Sinai sisterhood and make some great friends in the process. Whether you’re a mother, sister, aunt, daughter, single or married, widowed, with or without children, an empty nester, born Jewish, a Jew by choice, a non-Jew married to someone Jewish, we encourage you to become a member. We would be a better organization to have you counted among our members. By joining sisterhood, you are adding our voice and your hands to over 70,000 women.
We welcome you to contact the Temple Office for more information (702) 254-5110.

About the URJ
What is reform Judaism?
Throughout history, Jews have remained firmly rooted in Jewish tradition, even as we learned much from our encounters with other cultures. Nevertheless, since its earliest days, Reform Judaism has asserted that a Judaism frozen in time is an heirloom, not a living fountain. The great contribution of Reform Judaism is that it has enabled the Jewish people to introduce innovation while preserving tradition, to embrace diversity while asserting commonality, to affirm beliefs without rejecting those who doubt and to bring faith to sacred texts without sacrificing critical scholarship.
Reform Judaism affirms the central tenets of Judaism – God, Torah and Israel – even as it acknowledges the diversity of Reform Jewish beliefs and practices. We believe that all human beings are created in the image of God, and that we are God’s partners in improving the world. Tikkun olam — repairing the world — is a hallmark of Reform Judaism as we strive to bring peace, freedom and justice to all people.
Clergy Overview
Rabbi Malcolm Cohen hails from the West London Synagogue, England’s oldest reform temple, located in the Jewish ghetto in northwest London; Cantor Mariana Gidlin is originally from Argentina’s Temple Libertad, a now-conservative shul nestled in a traditional Buenos Aires neighborhood. Each of these passionate Jewish leaders is a trailblazer and brings a historic perspective to the pulpit. Together, they make up a dynamic duo the Temple Sinai board believes was well worth the effort and exhaustive interviewing process to bring them here. Having spent time with them recently, I’m inclined to agree.

President: Dr. Lawrence Copeland

Larry was born “Twin A” in Baltimore, Maryland. He spent his early childhood in the Pikesville area of Baltimore then moved during Middle school to Columbia, Maryland. His family belonged to Temple Oheb Shalom, the second largest Reform congregation in the city. He was a member of the first graduating class of Wilde Lake High School in Columbia, which has had some notable graduates including mystery writer, Laura Lippmann, and actor Edward Norton.
Larry’s family in Columbia was involved in the founding of Temple Isaiah, the first Reform synagogue in Howard County. Services and religious school were conducted in an interfaith center. While still in high school, Larry assisted his cousin Marvin in teaching religious education for the temple.
Larry’s college years were spent at the University of Maryland, College Park Campus. The University of Maryland had a large percentage of Jewish students, but provided limited courses in Jewish history, literature, or language. This provoked Larry and a few of his friends to come to together and form the Jewish Student Union. With recognition by the University, funding for Jewish programming and courses was eventually achieved. Larry graduated from the University with a B.S. in Biochemistry and subsequently graduated from the University of Maryland Medical School in Baltimore.
Larry moved to Las Vegas in 1982 to complete a residency in Internal Medicine. He was out of the religious spotlight for years. He and his better half, Linda, were married in June, 1985 and became members of Temple Beth Am. In 1987, Larry was approached and asked to be ‘window dressing’ for the board of the Temple. He was told, “It always looks good to have doctors and lawyers on the board for prestige!” He was informed that he would only have to show up at meetings and would not really have to do any work.
Twenty-five years later and with three Temple presidencies (Beth Am, Adat Ari El, and Temple Sinai) under his belt, Larry brings with him a wealth of experience to his role as President of our Board of Trustees.
Dr. Copeland has practiced Internal Medicine for more than 26 years in both group and solo practices. He has served on several committees at UMC, Valley, and Summerlin Hospitals. He held the position of Chief of Staff, and was on the Board of Governors of Summerlin Hospital from 1998-2001.
Larry has three children and five grandchildren. He currently resides in Summerlin with his wife, Linda and daughter, Danyel.
