Our Director of Jewish Education Alex Weisz is the newest addition to Temple Sinai’s professional leadership team. Alex is the director of the Mark L. Haberkorn Religious School, as well as the founding director of Temple Sinai’s two youth groups, SVTY (8th-12th grade) and Jr. SVTY (3rd-7th grade), which are affiliated with NFTY, the youth arm of Reform Judaism.
A native of Pasadena, California, Alex is a passionate educator with nearly a decade of experience in supplementary and experiential Jewish education. Alex graduated with honors from Loyola Marymount University, where he studied Political Science and Jewish Studies while serving as Loyola Marymount’s Hunger Fellow with MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger. At Loyola Marymount, his research focused on Israeli politics and historic theological trends in Judaism. Alex is a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honors Society, T’ruah: the Rabbinic Call for Human Rights, the J-Street Rabbinic and Cantorial Cabinet, and the Association for Reform Jewish Educators.
Alex is currently a Rabbinical student at the Academy of Jewish Religion California, and lives in Summerlin with his fiancé Emma and his puppy Winky.
